Metabolix Wellness Center of Clearwater, Florida is thrilled to introduce to you to the latest treatment for erectile dysfunction: The P Shot Plus. This novel treatment is the first non-surgical, non-pharmaceutical solution for erectile dysfunction. Once you hear about all the benefits it has to offer, the only question on your mind will be “How long does P shot last?”
Today we will answer that question and share with you the characteristics of our improved treatment that takes the P Shot to the next level. If you have been frustrated by erectile dysfunction (ED) in the past, rest assured that you have found the solution.
What Is the P Shot?
Formally known as the “Priapus Shot”, named after the Greek god of fertility, this treatment uses platelet-rich plasma to restore function to your penis. Erectile dysfunction affects millions of men in the United States. In fact, the prevalence of ED scales with age. Approximately 30% of men in their 30s have it, 40% in their 40s, and so on.
Research into ED treatments slowed after the development of Viagra. Ever since the little blue pill and its cousins Levitra and Cialis entered the market, most people assumed that was the peak of ED treatment. However, this revolutionary new treatment goes a step further.
What’s more, you will not have to worry about any of the troublesome side effects that ED pills are known for. Issues like vision loss and blood pressure anomalies are a thing of the past. The magic ingredient that makes this treatment so amazing is Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP.
What Is PRP?
Platelet-rich plasma, as its name would suggest, is plasma with a high concentration of platelets. Both platelets and plasma are found in your blood, along with red and white blood cells. PRP has been proven to restore tissues after injury as well as combat aging. It was first tested in the late 60s, with further advancements in the 70s.
For the next few decades it was limited to extreme circumstances, such as open-heart surgery recovery. The last twenty years, however, have changed that completely. Numerous clinical trials in the 90s and 00s revealed that PRP could be used for a variety of cosmetic treatments.
Sports medicine also discovered PRP and took full advantage. You may have heard of a number of famous athletes who have received PRP injections to recover faster from injuries. Not only is this technology completely proven, it’s also one of the safest treatments on the market. The reason has to do with how PRP is produced and administered.
How Is PRP Made?
PRP is produced through an entirely autologous process. In simpler terms, this means that the PRP we inject into your body comes directly from your body. There is no need for a matching donor or to purchase PRP stored in the refrigerator. If you have ever donated platelets or plasma, then you have seen most of the PRP production process.
First, a needle is inserted into your arm with a tube that runs to a centrifuge machine. This device draws blood from your arm and spins it inside the centrifuge. By spinning the blood at high speed, it separates into the four main components that we mentioned earlier. From there, we can siphon off only the parts that we want. In this case, we need plasma and platelets.
Since platelets make up less than 4% of your blood by volume, this process cycles several times. Each time, your red blood cells and other components are pushed back into your bloodstream through the same tube. This prevents you from losing valuable red blood cells and feeling tired or sluggish after the process.
This autologous method means that there is absolutely no risk to you during the treatment. Surgeries carry significant risks. Pharmaceutical solutions come with a number of side effects, not to mention the added cost of constantly refilling prescriptions. With PRP, you don’t have to worry about any of those issues. You get an effective treatment that lasts. But what exactly does PRP do?
How Does PRP Work?
PRP works by employing your body’s recovery mechanisms. Platelets play an important role in wound healing and recovery.
When you are injured, blood rushes to the affected area. This produces a high concentration of platelets, which release an enzyme called Platelet-derived Growth Factor. This enzyme signals nearby cells to reproduce. It also tells white blood cells to remove damaged cells.
The problem with aging is that it doesn’t trigger this response. Since there is no sudden trauma or damage to the body, platelets never come to the rescue. PRP solves that problem, since we concentrate the platelets and put them right where we need them.
What Makes the P Shot Plus Different?
The “Plus” refers to the use of pluripotent stem cells. In addition to PRP, we add pluripotent stem cells derived from your fat cells to improve the results. This can lead to a longer-lasting treatment.
This method of treating ED has also been tested and FDA approved under the name “P-Stem”. By combining these two methods, we have the most effective ED treatment available today. You get the immediate improvement of PRP plus the long-term benefits of pluripotent stem cells.
What Are Pluripotent Stem Cells?
If you have never heard of pluripotent stem cells (also known as iPSCs), you’re not alone. They are quite new, since the process was first discovered by Nobel Prize-winning researcher Shinya Yamanaka. He won the prestigious award in 2012, and since then clinical trials with iPSCs have shown considerable progress.
Stem cell research has often been mired in controversy due to the use of human embryos. However, iPSCs do not require any embryonic cells. Instead, fat cells are taken from your body and turned into pluripotent stem cells.
Pluripotent means that they can turn into many other kinds of cells. When injected into a particular area, they tend to transform into the cells they bump into. So, when we inject them into your penis, they become brand new penile tissue.
What Effects Does This Treatment Have on the Penis?
Your penis contains two unique tissues. The corpus cavernosum and corpus spongiosum are the main ones responsible for maintaining an erection. These tissues absorb blood from the penile arteries and hold it in.
The Fight Against Aging
As you age, the cells in these tissues lose their strength. This is why your erections today are not what they used to be. Because they can’t hold as much blood as before, your erection will be softer and less capable of penetration.
Furthermore, since the tissues lack the same endurance they used to have, your erections won’t last as long. Softness and short duration are the two main problems that cause ED, and that’s exactly what our treatment solves.
An Injection of Youth
When PRP and iPSCs are injected into penile tissue, they stimulate the production of brand new cells. These cells replace your old, damaged ones. This restores your ability to achieve an erection and maintain it for a healthy sexual experience.
How Long Does the P Shot Last?
Both anecdotal reports from patients and clinical studies have shown that the effects should last for at least a year. However, many patients have reported that the effects can last for much longer.
People who get repeated treatments may find that the results last much longer. Of course, everyone has a unique body and so their results may vary.
Variables to Consider
Several factors influence the duration of the P Shot benefits. First of all, there is the amount of damage in the first place. Generally speaking, the older you are, the more treatments you will need to see lasting results.
Another variable that is difficult to control is your own body chemistry. Each person has a unique platelet response, and this response also diminishes with age. Our use of iPSCs helps to reduce that variation and ensure your satisfaction with the treatment.
While we cannot promise permanent results, some patients have reported minimal decline after several years. Theoretically, if multiple treatments have replaced all or most of the damaged cells, you have essentially restored your penis back to its youthful self.
How Is the Treatment Performed?
We know that by now you must be wondering what to expect from this treatment. By far, the number one concern of our patients is pain and the fear of receiving an injection into one of the body’s most sensitive areas. Rest assured, we take a number of steps to ensure that you have a comfortable experience.
There is very little preparation needed for a P Shot Plus. You will have a consultation with our doctor to make sure that the treatment is right for you. When the green light has been given, we will set a date for your treatment.
Unlike surgeries, there are virtually no special instructions for the day of treatment. You may receive a few recommendations for your diet for the days leading up to the treatment. This can help enhance the results, since your body will have healthier plasma to use in the injection.
Day of Treatment
When you arrive to our facilities, we will start the process by applying topical anesthetic to your genital area. This is to make the subsequent injections of local anesthetic painless. While the topical cream sets in, we will begin preparing the PRP and stem cells for injection. When you are sure that your penis is sufficiently numb, the doctor will inject a local anesthetic. This will numb the tissues inside. By doing this, we make sure you feel no pain during the PRP Plus injection.
Once the PRP and stem cells have been prepared and you are completely numbed, the treatment will begin. The doctor will administer several injections along your penis. When finished, you can dress and get ready to leave. Our office will coordinate a time for a follow-up visit with you. Most patients see results within a day or two, although it may take a couple of weeks to see the full results. We typically program the follow up for a month from the treatment date.
While we recommend you abstain from sexual activity for the first 24 hours, there are no other restrictions. Because the treatment is so non-invasive, you can resume your normal activities quickly. If you have not gotten the results you hoped for, we can schedule a second treatment after the doctor assesses your situation.
