Telomeres are sections of genetic material at the end of each chromosome whose primary function is to prevent chromosomal “unraveling” when a cell replicates. As a cell ages, its telomeres become shorter. Eventually, the telomeres become too short to allow cell replication so the cell stops dividing and dies- which is a normal biological process. Telomere Testing is a simple blood test that can determine the length of one’s telomeres in relation to the their age.
Age adjusted telomere length is the best technique to date to evaluate biological age using structural analysis of chromosomal change in the telomere. Consecutive evaluation of telomere length is an indicator of how rapidly one ages relative to a normal population. Therapies directed at slowing the loss of telomere length may slow aging and age-related diseases.
At Metabolix wellness we perform telomere testing using Spectracell’s advanced diagnostic testing service. We then provide recommendations on helping our patients to maintain telomere length or even reverse shortened telomeres. We often do this through nutrition, fitness, hormone optimization and, IV nutrient therapy. Our Metabolix program concentrates on all the areas that can help improve cellular health and help slow aging.
